The thought of an ambient version of Maze was already alive when we were making the original tracks back in the days. I think you can hear even better with these ambientized versions that us Funcken's actually did our part in the melodies as well on that release, and its not all the infamous Mr Kettel's work. When the original Maze released a large portion of the critics and reviews assumed a simple division: melodics: Kettel, tweaking: Funcks. In fact the process for us was much more dynamic, and the fun we had making it as a team came through in the final product.
For the master I spent much of my time in making the melodies more alive, giving it more foundation and then letting them speak out through that more. I love mastering ambient, because it asks for a completely different approach than masters for the dancefloor, and that keeps me fresh at the final stage with audio.
All the "Maze" are there and ambientized + 3 extra tracks are added. Some tracks are more ambientized remixes of the original because of the level of additional layering and restructuring that occurred during the creative process of bringing these to light.
