If you are already a fan of the group then this album presents them at their very best. The sheer virtuosity on display is quite dazzling. The drum sound is massive and the drummer, Florian Pilkington-Miksa, is top rate. The bass is agile, fast and powerful; thanks to Philp Kohn. Darryl Way's electric violin is wondrous, although classical purists would hate the sounds he wrung out of it. Then there's Francis Monkman, later of Sky. His lead guitar is competent and imaginative; his keyboard playing puts all of his contemporaries in the shade. Sonya Kristina's vocals are, at times, a little over the top, however she acquitted herself well over the course of the concert.
"Vivaldi" has to be the most outstanding track as well as the longest. Incredible violin, bass and synthesiser work. "Propositions" has a brilliant guitar passage, either Francis playing a duet with his delay line, or with another (uncredited) guitarist. The closing track, "Everdance", is the weakest link; it suffers by comparison with "Vivaldi", which immediately precedes it. All the tracks sound substantially different to their originals - don't expect the studio tracks with a bit of atmosphere. That isn't how things were done back then...
