Call of Duty - Modern Warfare 2
AlterIWNet Multiplayer app
Full credit for this port belongs to Drakulix and rynotheking14 of the PortingTeam. Drak has spent uncountable hours in development of this app to make it feel and looks as native as a Wineskin port can feel. He's also been in close contact with AlterIW team and has persuaded them to implement certain functions to ensure a smooth and fully functional wrapper. Without all of their hard work we would never have seen this port see the light of day.
This is the first legal, fully function AlterIWNet wrapper for Mac. This is a 1.0 release and there is sure to be multiple updates to the wrapper. This is the initial file with the AlterIW game files included. The game files come directly from alterIW.net as these game files are the only ones supported by Drakulix at the Porting Team.
This does not include the single player campaign, this application only supports the AlterIW servers.
Proceed to www.alterIW.net and sign up for an account. If you do not sign up for an AlterIW.net account you will not be able to login to the network.
Mount the AlterIW-MW2MP.dmg
Do Not Change the Name of the Application, it will break
Drag and drop the Modern Warfare 2 - MP.app to your preferred gaming folder
Double click the application to launch it.
Enter in your username and password.
Allow the application to update to v1.3.37 a++
This port requires a minimum of 256MB vRAM and about 8GB of HD space
This was tested on an X1600 w/ 128 MB vRAM. The game ran fine but when it was time to load the game from the servers I received an error message (below) stating I did not have enough video RAM for texture storage. So the only real system requirement for this game should be 256MB vRAM. The X1600 with 256MB vRAM should run this port without issues.
Please post and questions or concerns you may have below…or feel free to post your questions at the address stated above (sign ups required to post in the thread but not to view content)
Seeing as how the majority of people will likely not click on the link for more info I will post Drakulix's Personal notes here
First Working AlterIWNet Wrapper!
Well not really. This is not a port of the real AlterIWnet, but of their pre-release demo for IW4M2, which will replace the old IW4M1, known as AlterIWnet client. It is available to everyone, who has an account on the alteriw.net forums and works already as stable as IW4M1.
Some features are still missing, but some new features are also only available through the pre-release demo, like some new maps, ported from SinglePlayer Maps. Currently playable are Oilrig, BurgenTown and a "Surprise" map + all known maps on dedicated servers, which are really enough to find a good working one.
One disadvantage is that for example that alterIWnet's own Anti-Cheat System is not yet active in IW4M2, so you will may come across some cheater, if you are playing on a bad dedicated server or in the lobby system. But you have to live with it or do not play at all. Because the normal IW4M1 uses .net and will never run in Wine or Cider. They did a great job on IW4M2, just hope it gets finished as soon as possible with all remaining features, so this becomes the "normal" alterIWnet.
One Side Note:
I announced this as a Cider Wrapper. But this download is a Wineskin Wrapper, because the Cider Wrapper is unstable. Just run the game folder one time on something else then a cider wrapper and you break it forever. Like I did on my system. I can currently not get any Cider Wrapper to work again. rynotheking14 (thanks for hell a lot of testing and discovering a cider fix) will post a cider wrapper here, soon. He got it to run with my files, what now constantly crashes for me.
NOTE: We will not give much support to the Cider Version, when it is online, because it stops working out of no reason. The Wineskin Wrapper is more stable and nearly as fast.
