Autodesk Softimage software is a 3D modeling, animation, rendering, and compositing solution optimized for artist efficiency. The Autodesk Softimage 2010 release boasts accelerated performance, greater data handling, the Autodesk Face Robot facial animation toolset, as well as new tools to help manage scene complexity.
Features in Autodesk Softimage and Autodesk Softimage Advanced high-performance 3D modeling, animation, rendering, and visual effects software enable you to tackle your most demanding game, film, and television projects.
See the range of motion captured with Face Robot’s soft tissue solver. Because Face Robot understands the way a face behaves, the skin is deforming rather than using morph targets or shapes.
Autodesk Softimage 2010 includes the Autodesk Face Robot toolset, a professional solution for rigging and animating large numbers of 3D facial expressions quickly and easily. It enables games and visual effects studios to create life-like facial animation at incredible speeds and export fully solved Face Robot heads into Autodesk Maya software for greater flexibility when creating believable characters. Using Face Robot, animators are free to concentrate on emotion, expression, and delivering unforgettable performances.
Note: The Face Robot toolset is not supported on the Linux operating system; however, the loading and rendering of Face Robot scenes is supported.
Speed Solve This video shows the initial landmark picking session and then tuning the behavior of the face. Using Softimage weight maps, wrinkle maps and skin weight can be painted in. Once the face is solved, motion capture is applied. At this point the face can be either attached to a character and rendered or exported to a real-time low-resolution version like we see here.
Shape Export Pipeline This video demonstrates the shape export pipeline of Face Robot. It shows how you can take a solved head in Face Robot and bring it into Autodesk Maya software as a fully animatable shape rig.
