We also stock up links to tutorials, articles, presets and plugins from around the web to help you get the most out of After Effects.

217. Adding Elements To Your Film Footage – AE Basix
Instead of starting from scratch when making a new motion piece I like to use filmed footage and add stuff onto it. I think it’s a great and fast way of learning new tools and presets in After Effects.

218. Introduction To Writing Scripts For AE – jascript Part 3
In Part 3 of this series, we’ll be learning how the Adobe javascript Editor works and how to write a script that can be executed in After Effects. You will learn how to debug scripts and end up with just a few lines of code that will generate a cube that consists of 1.000 solids, a parent null object, a light and a camera.

219. Shake It Up With An Expression Earth Quake
In this tutorial I take a basic look at the various random number methods in After Effects expressions. I go on to use some of these techniques to build an earthquake effect that you can easily adjust with a series of sliders. The tutorial is aimed at intermediate After Effects users who have some experience with the program and are looking to learn more about the power of expressions.

220. Put Out An Eerie Blood Dripping Logo
Ever wanted to make inanimate objects bleed? No?… oh, hmm… nevermind then. Come on! Of course you have… and now you can! In this tutorial you will learn the basics of how to create a flowing trail of blood using Trapcode Particular. In addition, you will learn how to change and use this is in other situations. I will teach you how to create the basic setup in After Effects as well as how to achieve some of the examples, which you can then incorporate with other tutorials on this site, to motion track, create divergence or just to enhance it in your own unique way.

221. Make Some NOISE! Jumbotron Noise Meter – Day 1
Have you ever been to a sporting event and seen a “noise meter” appear on the big screen? Even though it is rarely ever an actual functioning noise meter, it always gets the crowd riled up. So let’s take it to the next level and really give them an animation to cheer for!
In this first part of this tutorial, we will create the noise meter, the housing, and create a realistic LED visualizer animation from scratch.
There are some tutorials out there that show you how to animate EQ bands. But most of them are far too complex and do not achieve a very desirable look. I will show you a simple way to create this animation without using any audio files to drive the animation, and without using overly-complicated expressions.
Let the destruction begin!

222. Make Some NOISE! Jumbotron Noise Meter – Day 2
Have you ever been to a sporting event and seen a “noise meter” appear on the big screen? Even though it is rarely ever an actual functioning noise meter, it always gets the crowd riled up. So let’s take it to the next level and really give them an animation to cheer for!
You can view Part 1 here. In this Part 2 of the tutorial, we will begin the destruction! We will focus mainly on creating the shattered glass effect, and finish off with some stock footage elements and camera shake. There are some tutorials out there that show you how to animate EQ bands. But most of them are far too complex and do not achieve a very desirable look. I will show you a simple way to create this animation without using any audio files to drive the animation, and without using overly-complicated expressions.Let the destruction begin!”

223. How To Create Never Ending Z-Depth In AE
Hey there, how about a real world solution to a problem? I recently had a brief where I had to have a camera traveling along a cracking road with lava filling the cracks with periodic lava spurts. Now this is very doable in a 3d package but I decided to try and do it in AE alone. This is what I came up with….Now, this video had to last 4 mins, so traveling a camera along a path for 4 mins is just too much z space to work…. So using a few expressions and a recurring null i managed to create a base (which could be used for anything really) that continuously travels and by parenting objects to the traveling null we have the effect of objects moving toward the camera. This template works for many ideas…. maybe even a guitar hero animation.

224. 60 Wings Flaps At 60 Frames Per Second
In this tutorial we will discuss the proper use of the Key-light plug-in. Using time remapping, we will create the illusion of a hummingbird going from full speed to ultra slow motion (using a footage by Artbeats). a bit of Mesh Warp to gently move the branches.

225. Jump Into An Animated Freeze Frame Sequence
Today, were going to take a look at using expressions to simplify and speed up your workflow. We’ll be using an animated jump sequence to demonstrate the use of an “If else statement”. We’ll start in Photoshop creating the sequence, and then jump into After Effects to create an animation…. which will be driven off of just one control layer, with the help of expressions. Let’s get started! ”

226. Capture The Moment With A Bullet Time Muzzle Flash
In today’s tutorial, we will be looking at a Bullet Time freeze effect that I created in After Effects. All the effects were done in AE, using 2D source files. I will give a brief overview on how I shot the footage, stabilized it, and optimized it for this effect.

227. Line Up A 3D Smiley Toy Packshot Display
Originally created for a broadcast commercial to showcase a range of Smiley plush characters, I decided to create a tutorial from it because there are many useful techniques I used to go from the original 2d jpegs to a 3d scene with depth, shadows, reflections and even a 3d product logo. As always in AE, there are many ways to achieve an effect…these are just the ones I chose to make this spot.

228. The Wonderful World Of Shapes In After Effects
This tutorial provides you with the fundamentals of shape layers and shape effects. We will have a closer look at the most important functionalities and develop some basic examples. The topics covered will give you a good start to realize and design your own projects using shape layers.

229. Introduction To Writing Scripts Day 4 – Photo Wall
In Part 4 and Part 5 of this tutorial you will learn how to apply effects and expressions to existing layers using javascript. The result is designed to handle large numbers of pictures with a randomly created offset, so that they form a wall when the created slider is 0 and disperse in Z-space when increasing the slider value. The script will also have a user interface, so you can use it on any number of layers, without changing the source code.

230. Introduction To Writing Scripts Day 5 – Photo Wall

Along the way, we’ll also go through a few quick tips on how to speed up workflow by using expressions to automate animation.

233. Engage In A Harry Potter “Priori Incantatem” Duel – Day 2
This is the second of a 3-part series on how to replicate the Priori Incantatem effect from the Harry Potter films. In this part, we will explore how lights work alongside Trapcode Particular to give us more control of the direction of the particles’ motion. We will finish off the animation of our particle effects, and create the beams of magic squirting out the end of the wands.

234. Engage In A Harry Potter “Priori Incantatem” Duel – Day 3
This is the third of a 3-part series on how to replicate the Priori Incantatem effect from the Harry Potter films. Our final tutorial will take a look at making the effects fit into the shot. We will make our particles glow and give them a bit of color, as well as adjusting brightness, matching grain and adding heat distortion. There are a lot of possibilities for extending the effects in this shot, I encourage you to explore these ideas further and leave a link in the comments section below.

235. How to Create Explosive Flower Fireworks
